A Gift From Me to You - Fyreside Newsletter - 1/6/25

Fyreside Newsletter - 1/6/25

Hey Reader,

Do you remember seven days ago? Seven days ago was the 30th of December for those of you who don't have your calendar app on speed dial.

There's a huge difference between December 30th and January 6th: expectation. (No, this isn't a joke about historical events that happened on January 6th, but I see you.)

New Year, New Expectations

The first five days of 2025 came with an excuse. You drop a national holiday on a Wednesday and you've effectively torpedoed the whole work week. But that was last week, and now it's January 6th. (Still not a joke)

On this Monday, you're expected to be right back in the swing of things. You're likely working a normal schedule this week, maybe you're even setting your sites on your next vacation. One things for sure, the expectation is that, starting now, things go back to normal.

And that sucks.

Today might have been your first Monday setting an alarm in nearly a month. Your inbox probably has more unopened emails than it will for the rest of the quarter. Today is a tough one and I sympathize with you.

So that's it!

You don't need a giant wordy email about getting started in 2025. I know you won't start 2025 until you catch up on the last week of 2024, and I respect that. So I'm keeping this one short. I'll link some things below if you'd like to engage with me this week, but either way, I'll see you next Monday for a full newsletter.

I just ask this one thing...

Please remember that, if this email resonated with you, if you're feeling the crushing weight of a new year this morning, give yourself, and the others around you, some slack. You do not need to storm the Capitol of digital marketing to get your message across this week. Wait until next week when your audience has the bandwidth to hear it. And yes, that last one was a joke.

Fyreside Newsletter - 3/31/25 Hey Reader, I wrote a really good blog this week. If you didn't immediately click that link to read it, let me give you the rundown: Marvel Studios announced the cast list for their upcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday. They did so in a way that spits in the face of traditional marketing tactics. It went so well, that I had to break it down. If you're not a Marvel fan, don't fret. This email is not about Marvel. This email is about how most marketing advice...

Fyreside Newsletter - 3/24/25 Hey Reader, You've no doubt heard the Wild West cliché, "The Native Americans used every part of the buffalo." While I think this cliché is somewhat reductive of indigenous lifestyles in early North America, I appreciate the ethos. Use what you can, how you can. Don't let anything go to waste. Use it for all it's worth. However you personally recontextualize this cliché, I think it's valuable. Today, I'd like to recontextualize this cliché through the frame of...
