Hey Reader,

Happy Monday of a short work week! Whether you're a certified turkey-enjoyer, a Black Friday fiend, or just looking forward to the 3-day work week, I hope you get some rest this week.

Like the subject of this email says, I am DRUNK on blogs this week. Six, count 'em, six blogs went live on the website this week. Five of those 6 were part of the ongoing blog series about screen time. Number six actually snuck across the line this weekend and is the much awaited second issue of This Is Nothing. (Please note that link takes you to the first issue. The second is linked below.)

The target of this week's edition of This Is Nothing is Followers.com. These folks have been spamming my inbox for the last few months and I decided to dig into what they offer. What I found was entirely underwhelming. You can read about it here. (That's the link for the second issue.)

As for the other five blogs, each one was a deep dive into how screen time effects the algorithm of a social media outlet. There's an individual post about Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok. All five are linked below and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Today will bring the conclusion of our screen time blog series! There will be one more blog released as part of the series covering the "get what you give" aspect of social media. Once the final issue is released, I'll compile all the issues into one eBook which will be available at bahnfyrepr.com/freestuff.

Screen Time: Facebook

It’s 2024 and we live in a post “Pivot to Video” era. If your impression of Facebook is still tied to the idea of personal connections, you’re already a step behind.

While Instagram and Facebook are both owned by the same parent company, the way the platforms work are quite different. We’re going to identify what Instagram likes, how users spend time on the app, and how you can use both of those things to your advantage.

Screen Time: LinkedIn

I try my best not to humanize any forms of “the Algorithm” because it is inherently not human. To suspend that practice momentarily, I think it’s fair to think of the LinkedIn algorithm as a high school guidance counselor. It’s going to give you what it thinks you need, whether you like it or not.

Screen Time: YouTube

If your strategy involves posting to YouTube, understanding the inner workings of the site is imperative. While you may be able to stumble into moderate success on a platform like Instagram, LinkedIn or TikTok, you will find zero, and I do mean zero, success on YouTube without this knowledge.

Screen Time: TikTok

TikTok is watching your literal every move on the app. Because it can only see your screen time, it wants you to give it as much as you can.
